Too much praise cannot be given to the chauffeur, Bert Reed, whose skill as a driver, knowledge as a mechanic and sunny disposition will help make the Trinidad-Crescent City route a popular one. Bert never loses his head or forgets his smile, no matter what the provocation may be, and that goes a long way in dealing with a gasoline engine.

As an evidence of how high the baseball spirit runs in Arcata, we will relate a little incident which was brought to our notice this week, which shows that even the children are Òfans.Ó A few days ago, Alexia, the little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Devlin, came to her mother with a small toy goat, which she had carefully wrapped in tissue paper, and asked for ÒCoogieÕsÓ address. Upon being asked why she wanted to know, the little lady calmly announced that she had heard that ÒCoogieÓ had lost his ÒgoatÓ and wanted to send him another, as she felt sorry for him.

Burt Reed brought the Trinidad-Crescent City auto stage into Arcata ... to repair a couple of broken cylinders ... The break occurred near Requa, and Bert brought his load, consisting of six passengers in on two cylinders, and they assisted him by walking up the steeper grades. This is the first bad breakdown the car has had and it is not surprising, as it has been necessary to load it beyond capacity a number of times. The route has been one of the best paying rates in the county and the big car has more than paid for itself.
