He was 72 years old.
Death was due to a general breakdown resulting from overwork and grief which caused him to leave the supreme court early in January and resign his chief justiceship ...

The attempt occurred, according to passengers abord the seven oÕclock launch to Samoa, just as the boat was pulling away from the dock at the front of F street. The girl is said to have walked out on the dock, removed her fur coat, her shoes, hat and necklace and plunged off into the water. She had laid a purse containing $80 on top of the pile of clothing.
Captain Ray Hemblock immediately swung the launch toward the point where the girl was struggling in the water ... and brought the boat alongside. W. L. Fridericks ... pulled the girl aboard.

Front page news: Pinned beneath a load of freight as they slid with it into the shallow waters of Bully Creek seven miles beyond Weitchpec, Daniel George and Frank Devlin, Indians, lost their lives as the result of an unusual highway accident Saturday night.
George and Devlin were riding in the body of the truck driven by Frank Ryerson, who was delivering a two-ton load of produce ... [When] he crossed a narrow bridge over Bully Creek, he felt the dual left wheel ... slide off the runway planking of the bridge, placing it on the unsupported ends of the cross-decking of the span. The ends of these broke off and the truck started to fall ... spilling George and Devlin and the freight into the water.
Ryerson ... extricated the bodies. He attempted artificial resuscitation without success. ...
... George was 30 and Devlin 60 years old.

Levey, expert linotype operator for the Arcata Union, the liveliest and most important weekly in Arcata, stepped before a gathering of prominent Masons and gave a very delightful talk on ÒExperiences of a printer of the Typographical Union.Ó George, having traveled from Canada to Louisiana, and from the Atlantic to the Pacific, had experiences such as nowhere else to be found.
